The department forms a stable sports calendar taking into account the region's specifics: open mats are held quarterly with rotation of venues between Yoshkar-Ola and the southern districts of the republic, twice a year - the Mari El championship and cup. Since 2024, the "Volga Belt" project has been implemented - a series of tournaments in single-industry towns and rural areas with transport support provided for participants from remote settlements. Annually, the interregional "Mari Border" tournament is held with the participation of clubs from Tatarstan, Chuvashia, and Kirov Oblast.
